What is the authenticity of the hadith narrated in Sunan Abi Dawud about a man who was brought to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, who then said: "Kill him," and after repeated thefts, said: "Cut him off," and finally, on the last occasion, he was killed and burned?

Al-Nasa'i, Ibn al-Humam, Al-Tahawi, and Al-Mabsut said: The aforementioned hadith (definition) is munkar (denounced) and has no basis. Imam Al-Shafi'i and Ibn al-Munkadir said: This hadith is abrogated. Assuming it is authentic, scholars have interpreted it to mean that this man was killed due to his humiliation and degradation, or because he apostatized, or because he said something that warranted his execution after the amputation, or that it was specific to the aforementioned man because the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, knew that his killing was obligatory, or that he was one of those who spread corruption in the land.
