Is abstaining from marriage entirely, due to the parents' insistence that their son marry female relatives whom he does not desire, and their rejection of the woman whom he wishes to marry, considered right or wrong in order to avoid disobeying one's parents?

The correct approach is to comply with the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) command to marry, as it is enjoined and may even be obligatory. The family's objection to marrying outside of close relatives does not justify refusing marriage. Instead, the matter should be handled with wisdom and gentleness, either by acceding to the family's wishes or by convincing them to allow marriage to the one you love, while emphasizing that honoring one's parents is incomparable to anything else.
