Are the numerous commitments, debts, and pressures in the life of a person who fears God considered a punishment or a test?

Calamities may occur as a punishment for a servant's sins, so that Allah may expiate them through these calamities. They may also be for elevating the believer's ranks. Hastening punishment in this world is better than delaying it until the Hereafter. Calamities may be greater than faults, enabling a person, through their patience, to reach the highest ranks of the patient. There is no contradiction between calamities being a punishment that expiates sins, and their being a trial and test from Allah, encompassing both good and evil.
