Upon what basis did God create distinction among people?

The criterion for superiority and honor in the sight of Allah Almighty is piety, as confirmed by His statement: ﴿O humankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.﴾ So, people are equal in origin and source, and the diversity of languages and colors is for acquaintance, not for boasting. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, emphasized this meaning.
