Is Zakat obligatory on money saved and sent to family in installments to help them with marriage and self-establishment?

Zakat is obligatory on money saved for marriage or other purposes, whether you keep it with you or send it to your family, provided it reaches the nisab (minimum threshold) and a hawl (one lunar year) passes over it. It is permissible to appoint relatives as agents to distribute the zakat. As for the money you gave to your parents and siblings before the hawl passed, you are not obligated to pay zakat on it. The hawl is calculated from the date the money reached the nisab, which is equivalent to 85 grams of gold or 595 grams of silver. The amount of zakat that must be paid is 2.5% of the money.
