The question

Will Allah hold me accountable for my feelings towards my mother due to her injustice and favoritism towards my sister, even though I do not show these feelings and visit her and respect her out of fear of Allah, not love? And would I be sinful if I stopped spending on her, knowing that she and my sister have sufficient money, and I feel exploited and that my children's rights are being ignored?

The answer

Thank you for fearing Allah's accountability; we ask Allah to guide your mother. Increase your supplications for her, as prayer is a gate to fulfilling desires.

Regarding your first question: There is no sin for the inner feeling of dislike towards your mother due to her bad actions. It is your duty to honor her no matter how badly she behaves, and you have done well by honoring her.

Regarding your second question: If your mother is not in need of money, there is no sin upon you if you stop spending on her. However, it is preferable to help her if it causes you no harm, in order to protect yourself from her evil.

We advise you to seek the reasons behind your mother's actions and try to address them, and to seek assistance from wise people to reconcile between you.

We draw your attention to the following matters: 1. It is obligatory to treat children equally in financial and emotional gifts. 2. Rights must be delivered to their rightful owners, and disinheriting heirs is a grave injustice. 3. There is no harm in avoiding a sick person for fear of contagion.
