Is the reader not rewarded for reciting the Qur’an with correct letters but without observing the rules of Tajwid?

The religiously obligatory extent of Tajwid (Qur'anic recitation with proper rules) is to preserve the pronunciation of letters and to articulate them from their correct points of articulation without substituting one letter for another, and to avoid errors (laḥn) that change the meaning or the grammatical structure. Anything beyond that, such as observing the rules of prolongation (mudud), nasalization (ghunnah), and similar rules, is recommended (mustaḥabb) and not obligatory (wajib). Failing to observe these does not incur sin, nor does it deprive one of the reward for recitation. However, it diminishes the reward compared to reciting with the recommended Tajwid.
