Is it permissible for a man to marry at the woman's expense and with her consent?

Allah Almighty has obligated men to pay the dowry to women upon marriage, in order to honor them and prevent manipulation, and He has permitted women to waive it. A wife spending on her husband after marriage or bearing his expenses is permissible as long as she is content, but it diminishes the man's status and weakens his guardianship, which is based on his provision. The husband is advised to spend on his home and wife, for there is a great reward in it, and the best of spending is that which is on one's family.
