Is money taken from a miserly person under difficult financial circumstances considered a debt that must be repaid?

Your taking money from your employer is a breach of trust, and it is your duty to repent to Allah and return the money to him immediately. This money is a debt upon you, and your repentance is not complete until you return it or he forgives it. It is not a condition to inform him of the return.
