Is it permissible to eat meat imported from non-Islamic countries without verifying how it was slaughtered?

Allah has permitted the food of the People of the Book (their slaughtered animals) unless it is known that they were slaughtered by strangulation, beating, or electrocution, in which case eating from them is impermissible. Therefore, it is better and more cautious for a believer not to eat from these meats if they are slaughtered in a manner other than the Islamic way, acting upon the hadith (definition): "Leave what makes you doubt for what does not make you doubt," and "Whoever guards against doubtful matters has safeguarded his religion and his honor." It is preferable for a believer to slaughter for himself or to buy from butchers known for Islamic slaughter.
