Does divorce occur if I say to my wife's mother, "Tell your daughter she is divorced"?

A wife is not permitted to seek divorce without a valid شرعي excuse, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Any woman who asks her husband for divorce without a sound reason, the fragrance of Paradise will be forbidden to her." And the husband's statement to his wife's mother: "Tell your daughter she is divorced" effects the divorce from the moment he utters it, whether the mother conveys the message or not. The husband may reconcile with his wife before the expiration of her iddah (definition) (waiting period) if this divorce does not complete the three divorces.
