Is expiation obligatory for one who intentionally aroused his desires during the daytime in Ramadan, and a fluid was discharged from him, which he does not know whether it is semen or pre-seminal fluid?

If a fasting person intentionally arouses his desire without intercourse, and a fluid is discharged, but it is not clear whether it is manī (seminal fluid) or madhī (pre-seminal fluid), then according to the Malikis, he must make up the day without expiation (kaffarah), because expiation is waived due to doubt. However, the correct and most authoritative view (al-madhhab al-sahīh al-muftā bihi) is that if someone engages in foreplay (mubāsharah) and madhī is discharged, or if he masturbates (istamnā) and madhī is discharged, his fast is not invalidated. This is the view of Abu Hanifa and Al-Shafi'i, and the choice of Ibn Taymiyyah. The view of the majority of scholars (jumhūr) is that expiation is only obligatory for intentional intercourse.
