Is it permissible to seek forgiveness for, or ask for mercy for, or pray for a man who died while being an evildoer, abandoning prayer, cursing the Divine Essence, and mocking the religion?

One who dies an infidel, having reviled the Divine Being or mocked religion without repentance, may not be prayed over or prayed for. This is based on the Almighty's saying: "And do not ever pray over any of them who has died or stand by his grave, for they disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger and died while they were defiantly disobedient," and "It is not for the Prophet and those who have believed to ask forgiveness for polytheists, even if they were relatives, after it has become clear to them that they are companions of Hellfire." As for one who dies a transgressor by committing forbidden acts such as abandoning prayer, fornication, and drinking alcohol, he is considered a Muslim and it is permissible to pray for him, because he is under the will of Allah.
