How is the inheritance distributed among a mother, a wife, two sons, three daughters, and a maternal grandmother, taking into consideration the renovation and expansion of the house through unquantified efforts and payments from some heirs, the grandmother's refusal to take her share, the mother's gift of a plot of land to her son from money she received as a gift from her father, and the other heirs' demand for their share in this gift or for it to be counted as part of the father's inheritance?

If the heirs are confined to those mentioned, then the mother receives one-sixth, the wife one-eighth, and the remainder goes to the sons and daughters by ta'sib (agnatic inheritance), with the male receiving the equivalent of two females' shares. The maternal grandmother receives nothing due to her being excluded by the mother. The mother's share of the inheritance is her rightful property, even if she refuses it, and it transfers to her heirs after her death. As for the land that the mother gifted to one of her sons, if it was a gift in which fairness among the children was not achieved, then it is invalid, and the mother must act justly among them in giving, either by retracting the gift or by giving the remaining children what achieves fairness. Matters of inheritance are serious and complex, and a mere fatwa (definition) is not sufficient; rather, they must be presented to Sharia (definition) courts for investigation.
