What are the wife's rights upon divorce regarding alimony, solatium, deferred dower, and the 'iddah (waiting period)?

The deferred dowry (mu'akhkhar al-sadaq) is a right of the divorced woman that must be paid. As for the compensatory gift (mut'ah), it is commendable (mustahabb) and not obligatory according to the more preponderant opinion (al-rajih (definition)). The waiting period ('iddah (definition)) is obligatory for a wife with whom consummation has occurred. However, for a wife with whom consummation has not occurred, there is no 'iddah, unless there was a valid privacy (khalwah sahihah). The general principle regarding divorce is prohibition, except when there is a need. It becomes permissible if the situation between the spouses deteriorates and the continuation of the marriage becomes a source of corruption (mafsadah). It is advisable to proceed with caution, consideration, and consultation with wise individuals before undertaking it.
