Ibn Qudamah says in Al-Mughni, after mentioning the etiquette of entering the Prophet’s Mosque: You visit the grave facing its middle, with your back to the Qiblah, and you greet the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, bearing witness to his prophethood and servitude, and that he conveyed the message, advised the Ummah, and worshipped Allah until certainty came to him, and you send prayers upon him. As for rubbing against the wall of the grave and seeking help from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, this is something a Muslim must beware of.
