The answer

A Muslim should be serious in every matter, especially a student of knowledge in the West, as he is an ambassador for Muslims. Time is still available for seeking Sharia knowledge, as the Companions and many jurists began seeking knowledge at an advanced age and excelled. Among the things that help elevate one's ambition are: feeling responsible, keeping good company, and reading the biographies of people with high aspirations. One must prioritize learning the individual obligation (fard al-ayn) of Sharia knowledge above everything else, and seek the communal obligation (fard al-kifaya) in parallel with empirical sciences. This can be achieved through a gradual scientific methodology, listening to scholarly audios, or enrolling in Sharia universities and institutes spread across America. It is also advised to engage with Islamic centers and gatherings, as good company is important for steadfastness.
