The answer

Khalid ibn al-Walid is a Sword from the Swords of Allah. He cannot be compared to the aberrant, misguided Khawarij, whose condemnation and misguidance have been established by consensus and textual evidence. Khalid fought against the disbelievers and apostates, whereas the Khawarij fought against the people of Islam with corrupt interpretations. Khalid made a practical mistake due to wartime circumstances, while the Khawarij made corrupt theoretical interpretations upon which they based excommunication (takfir) and the permissibility of shedding blood. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, disavowed Khalid's action concerning Banu Jadhimah but did not remove his title, whereas he commanded fighting the Khawarij.
