What is the ruling on yellow or brownish discharge (Ṣufrah and Kudrah) or blood after seeing the sign of purity after ten days, and what is required for ablution and prayer?
The preponderant opinion is that the maximum duration of menstruation is fifteen days. Yellowish and brownish discharges are not considered menses unless they occur within the usual period of menstruation, or are connected to blood. So, if the bleeding stops and the woman sees purity, then any yellowish discharge after that, outside of her usual period, is not considered menses. She must then perform Istinja (cleansing) from it and Wudu (ablution) for prayer. However, if she sees a yellowish discharge mixed with blood, then it is menstruation. If the emission of yellowish discharge is continuous, such that she cannot find time for purity and prayer, then she should perform Wudu for each prayer after its time has begun and pray the obligatory and supererogatory prayers with that Wudu until the time expires, similar to someone afflicted with urinary incontinence.
