If a man divorces his wife with three pronouncements, she becomes irrevocably separated from him (baynunah kubra), and she is not lawful for him until she marries another husband and he consummates the marriage with her, and then that husband divorces her. The divorce takes effect whether it occurs during menstruation or during a period of purity in which the man had intercourse with his wife, or if more than one pronouncement of divorce is made at once, though the one who does so is sinful. It is not permissible for a woman to marry while she is in her iddah (definition) (waiting period) from her first husband, whether her iddah is revocable or irrevocable. It is advisable to refer such matters to Sharia (definition) courts for adjudication, as the judge's ruling resolves disputes.
