What should a mother do regarding her husband and son who are committing adultery, while she is being harassed by her husband's family? Should she abandon them, or continue to call them to repentance? And is she obligated to seek a divorce?

The father's intentional throwing of the Quran is an act of disbelief (kufr) that necessitates repentance. If he does not repent, it becomes obligatory for the mother to separate from him. Adultery is a grave sin, and its commission by a married person (muhsin) and with close relatives (mahārim) is an even greater offense. The father must be advised to repent. If the father does not repent from adultery, it is recommended for the mother to separate from him. The brother is advised to repent from his heinous actions. If he repents, that is good; otherwise, he should be boycotted if boycotting proves effective. He must also make up for the days he missed in Ramadan. The grandfather's attempt to commit adultery with his son's wife is an attempt to commit incest (zina bi al-mahārim), and he should be advised to repent. Openly committing sins and boasting about them increases the sin, especially when it occurs among family members. The brother's committing of forbidden acts in front of his mother is a great act of disobedience. His bad upbringing does not harm her, and she should supplicate for his guidance.
