The answer

Borrowing with interest is forbidden for purchasing a house or anything else, except in a case of lawful necessity. This includes someone who cannot find housing except through this means, or if rent consumes their income to the extent that it is insufficient for them and their dependents. However, if it is possible to rent without excessive hardship, then borrowing with interest is forbidden. One can deal with Islamic banks as a lawful alternative. It is forbidden for a Muslim to deal with interest-based banks if it is possible for them to deal with an Islamic bank.
