A woman is permitted to engage in mixed-gender work if she needs it and cannot find work free from mixing, provided she adheres to Islamic regulations such as avoiding private seclusion (khalwa), handshakes, and gazes, and maintaining proper covering (ستر) and keeping a distance from men as much as possible. However, if she predominantly believes she will be unable to adhere to these regulations, then seeking safety (avoiding such work) is preferable.
