Is it permissible to attend wedding parties that include singing, dancing, and drug use, as a courtesy, without participating in these rituals and leaving later?

It is not permissible to attend weddings where there is an abomination (munkar), unless one is capable of removing or reducing that abomination. The majority of jurists hold that it is not permissible to enter a place where there is an abomination with the intention of staying. The Hanafis explicitly stated that one should not accept an invitation if one knows of an abomination before attending. As for the Shafi'is, they said that it is preferable not to attend, but it is permissible to attend with disapproval in one's heart and without listening [to the abomination]. The Shafi'is and Hanbalis stipulated that attendance is obligatory if the abomination would be removed by one's presence. The Malikis stipulated that the presence of an abomination absolutely prevents accepting the invitation. A Muslim should state the true reason for not accepting the invitation, as this falls under enjoining good and forbidding evil, and he should be patient with any reproaches he may receive. If he fears harm, he may use ambiguous statements (ma'arid).
