Is a person who paid a bribe considered a briber even if they did not benefit from the service, and how can they atone for this act?

A bribe is the payment of money to invalidate a right or validate a falsehood, and the Lawgiver has threatened with a curse (expulsion from the mercy of Allah) the briber, the bribed, and the intermediary. Since the questioner paid a bribe, he has fallen into sin, and he must repent and seek forgiveness.
