Is it obligatory for a woman to wipe the area of the ear covered by the earring when performing Wudu'?

Wiping the ears is a Sunnah (recommended act), not an obligation, according to the majority of scholars. Therefore, whoever omits wiping them, their purification remains valid, and a consensus (ijma') has been reported on this matter. As for the recommended method of wiping, it is done by wiping their outer and inner parts. The forefingers are inserted into the ear canals and rotated along their folds, while the thumbs are passed over their outer surfaces.
