What is the ruling on the statement of one who says: "It is presumed that our parents would have informed us of all religions, and thereafter we would choose the appropriate religion"?

This statement is an act of disbelief (kufr) and apostasy (riddah). Its utterer must be asked to repent. If he does not repent, his case should be referred to the Sharia (definition) courts for the application of the apostasy punishment (hadd al-riddah) against him. What he should have said is, "Praise be to Allah who guided us to Islam," and he should have thanked Allah for being born into a Muslim society, to Muslim parents, for this is one of Allah's greatest blessings. Islam is the well-being of this world and the Hereafter. Allah Almighty said: "And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers" (Aal-e-Imran 3:85), and "Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allah is Islam" (Aal-e-Imran 3:19), and "and have approved for you Islam as religion" (Al-Ma'idah 5:3). We ask Allah for steadfastness upon Islam.
