Is it permissible for the Imam to pray with two surahs in one rak'ah?

It is permissible to combine two or more surahs of the Qur'an after reciting Al-Fatihah in a single unit (rak'ah) of prayer. A group of scholars has explicitly stated the permissibility of combining two surahs in one rak'ah, based on what is reported in the Two Sahihs (Bukhari and Muslim) that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, sent a man who used to conclude his recitation with {Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad} and then add another surah (definition) to it. This is also supported by what was narrated from Hudhayfah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, prayed and began with Al-Baqarah, then An-Nisa, then Al Imran.
