A woman must perform ghusl and pray after the cessation of blood, because there is no minimum limit for nifas (postnatal bleeding) according to the majority of scholars. The blood a woman sees after a hysterectomy is not nifas, because nifas is the blood discharged by the uterus after childbirth, and it is the menstrual blood that was retained during pregnancy. Therefore, if the uterus has been removed, the exiting blood is not nifas, but rather istihadah (irregular bleeding) and vitiating blood. She must make up the prayers she missed during the flow of this blood.
