The answer

The fast is not broken by things that invalidate it—except for menstruation and post-natal bleeding—unless the fasting person did them intentionally, knowingly, and remembering. So, if water enters someone's throat unintentionally, their fast is valid, and there is no need for them to make up the day, as Allah Almighty says: "And there is no blame upon you for that in which you have erred, but [only for] what your hearts intended." The fasting person is also prohibited from exaggerating in sniffing water up the nose, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "And exaggerate in sniffing water up the nose unless you are fasting."
