What is the ruling on shunning parents from whom the son has experienced nothing but humiliation and disgrace, and who prefer his unjust brother over him, harbor malice and envy towards him, and neglect his rights? And would Allah be pleased if his maintaining ties with them entails humiliation and disgrace?

Parents' behavior that violates Sharia and natural disposition puts children to a real test that requires patience from them, and it elevates their ranks and expiates their sins. It is obligatory to honor one's parents, treat them kindly, and maintain ties with them, even if they are unjust or polytheists, and to avoid any actions considered disobedience, such as frowning or sighing. Maintaining ties should be done as easily as possible and according to custom. If visiting results in greater harm, then ties must be maintained in a way that does not cause harm.
