The answer

A husband does not have the right to absolutely prevent his wife from conceiving. Conception is one of the purposes of marriage, and procreation is a right for both spouses. Moreover, having many children is a legitimate objective encouraged by the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: "Marry the affectionate, fertile woman, for I shall boast of your large numbers before the nations on the Day of Resurrection." Delaying pregnancy for a short period for a valid reason is permissible.
