Is there repentance or expiation for someone who swore an oath on the Qur’an three times to quit smoking cigarettes, and then returned to it?

Breaking an oath to abstain from smoking does not lead to apostasy from Islam, but it necessitates expiation. One of the conditions for sincere repentance (tawbah (definition) nasuh) is to quit smoking, and Allah accepts the repentance of anyone who repents, no matter how great their sins. Three expiations are required if the oaths were distinct and intended to establish new commitments, whereas a single expiation suffices if they were combined and intended for emphasis.
