What is the motivation for some people to resist failure?

Failure is a defect and a dispraise, while success is perfection and a praise. Success is the ultimate goal of every believer. Allah created the universe for His worship and promised Paradise to those who die in faith, and Hellfire to those who refuse.

The Quran clarifies the consequences of success and failure, and encourages a good life in this world for those who do righteous deeds.

A Muslim is required to establish truth and justice, and diligence in work is fundamental to success. The strong believer who loves good works and strives for self-improvement, seeking assistance from Allah, does not succumb to helplessness. He views failure as a step towards success and overcomes it with repentance and determination.
