Is it permissible to postpone memorizing the Quran and seeking religious knowledge until the holiday, knowing that I am ill and suffer from obsessive thoughts that make me feel deficient in my duty towards my Lord when pursuing worldly studies?

The answer

The questioner is advised to thank Allah for the intelligence He has bestowed upon them, and to observe the obligatory prayers and the prescribed remembrances (adhkar) for protection from evil. They are encouraged to combine studying with memorizing the Qur’an. If this is not possible, there is no harm in delaying the memorization until vacation time, while reviewing previously memorized parts. As for obsessive thoughts (waswas), their cure is to completely disregard them and occupy oneself with what makes one forget them.
