The answer

It has not been reported that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, ate with his left hand. Rather, what is established from him is the prohibition of eating with the left hand and the command to eat with the right hand. Scholars have explicitly stated the dislike (karahah) of eating and drinking with the left hand, and some have even deemed it forbidden. As for the hadith that describes the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, eating fresh dates with cucumbers, mentioning a cucumber in his right hand and dates in his left, its chain of narration (isnad) is weak. Even if it were authentic, it would be interpreted as him switching what was in his hands or taking the fresh dates with his right hand from his left to eat them, and not as eating with his left hand.
