Is it permissible to sell audiotapes of songs and Islamic sermons?
Source: FtawySummarized from the full answer at Ftawy · imported Sep 2, 2026
If audiotapes contain music, or feature female singers performing with their voices, or promote vice, then selling them is not permissible. This is because when Allah the Almighty forbids something, He also forbids its price. Selling them is considered aiding in sin, as Allah the Almighty says: "And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression." As for tapes of sermons and Islamic chants that are free of musical instruments, except for the daff (tambourine), selling them is permissible.
