هل يجب إخراج جزء من المال الذي يعثر عليه المرء لله؟
The money found is either a treasure (Kanz) or a lost-and-found item (Luqata). If it is a valuable lost-and-found item, it must be publicized for a year in places where people gather. If its owner is not found, it is permissible to benefit from it or to give it away as charity. Then, if its owner appears, he is given the choice between its value and the reward of the charity. If the lost-and-found item is insignificant and people would not bother with it, its finder is permitted to benefit from it without publicizing it. However, if the money is a treasure and bears signs of the Ignorance (pre-Islamic) period, it is a buried treasure (Rikaz), and one-fifth of it must be extracted and spent on the recipients of zakat.
