The answer

The saying "Astaghfirullah wa atubu ilaih" (I seek forgiveness from Allah and repent to Him) is among the virtuous remembrances (dhikr) that Allah has commanded and encouraged in His Book and the of His Prophet, peace be upon him. This is as stated in His Almighty saying: "And seek forgiveness from your Lord, then repent to Him," and His saying: "So glorify the praises of your Lord and ask for His forgiveness. Indeed, He is ever-Forgiving." It has been authentically reported that the Prophet, peace be upon him, used to seek Allah's forgiveness and repent to Him more than seventy or one hundred times a day. Its ruling is that it is obligatory once in a lifetime, and anything beyond that is a virtue and recommended.
