The question

Is it permissible for me to take out an interest-bearing loan from a bank to buy a house in a Western country due to the impossibility of buying a house with cash, and the absence of any other solution besides renting, which causes me many problems?

The answer

Borrowing with interest (riba) is forbidden by Islamic law, and it is not permissible to undertake it except out of necessity that cannot be averted by any other means, in accordance with the Almighty’s saying: "So fear Allah as much as you are able," and "But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [its limit], there is no sin upon him." If there is no necessity, or if it can be averted by permissible means, then an interest-bearing loan is not allowed. Whoever engages in it has exposed himself to the eradication of blessings and a war from Allah, as stated in the Almighty’s saying: "Allah destroys interest and gives increase for charities," and "And if you do not, then be informed of a war from Allah and His Messenger." Therefore, you must fear Allah and avoid interest-bearing loans except in cases of extreme necessity, for Allah provides a way out for those who fear Him and provides for them from where they do not expect, as in the Almighty’s saying: "And whoever fears Allah – He will make for him a way out and will provide for him from where he does not expect." It is worth noting that residing in non-Islamic countries may push one to commit forbidden acts.
