What is the ruling on a student residing in America eating meals from the institute whose freedom from pork derivatives is difficult to ascertain, and how can that be verified?

Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen, may Allah have mercy on him, answered the question regarding eating fish or potatoes fried in oil that was used to fry non-halal meat or pork. He stated that if it is known that the majority of what is fried in that oil is impure, then one must inquire. However, if it is not known whether the majority of what is fried in it is impure or otherwise, then there is no need to inquire. To ascertain the situation among people in America, one should ask trustworthy Muslims residing there, such as those in charge of Islamic centers and imams of mosques.
