What is the ruling on learning the twenty attributes of Allah the Almighty: Is it obligatory or not obligatory?

A Muslim must believe in all attributes of perfection that Allah has affirmed for Himself or that His Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, has affirmed for Him, and must clear Him of all attributes of imperfection.

The Ash'aris divide attributes into obligatory, impossible, and permissible, and for them, the obligatory attributes are twenty. Whereas Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jama'ah affirm all attributes mentioned in the Qur'an and Sunnah, whether they are among these twenty or not, such as the attributes of the Face, the Hands, and Istiwa' (ascension), while entrusting the modality [to Allah].

The methodology of the Salaf differs from that of the theologians in understanding the attributes. For example, "Allah's being different from created beings" for the Salaf means that Allah does not resemble His creation, while theologians interpret it as negating some attributes. All theoretical and practical matters must be referred back to the Qur'an, Sunnah, and scholarly consensus, without delving into precise details in front of the general public.
