The majority of scholars have permitted the making and selling of dolls, citing as evidence the hadith of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) regarding her playing with dolls. This applies whether the dolls are in the form of human or animal figures, whether they are three-dimensional or not, and whether they have a real-life counterpart or not. This exception has been justified by the need for girls to train in raising children. It is thus more likely that there is no harm in toys depicting living beings that are specifically for children.
