The question

What is your advice for someone who wants to memorize the Hadith and the Prophetic Sunnah, and how should they start and progress? What books do you recommend for memorization? Is there a book that compiles the Ahadith agreed upon by the two Shaykhs, Al-Bukhari and Muslim, or by Al-Bukhari, Muslim, and other Sunan and Musnad collections?

The answer

Whoever wishes to memorize the of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is advised to sense the importance of the Hadith, and to accompany a proficient shaykh to correct the wording and avoid errors, while sincerely intending for Allah and progressing gradually in memorization. One should start with small books like "Al-Arba'in An-Nawawiyyah" (An-Nawawi's Forty Hadiths), then books of Hadith on rulings such as "Umdat Al-Ahkam" and "Bulugh Al-Maram," then concise collections like "Riyad As-Salihin," and then larger Hadith books such as "Al-Muwatta'" and "The Six Books." Among the suggested books are: "Al-Lu'lu' wal-Marjan," "Zad Al-Muslim," "Jam' Al-Jawami'," "Jami' Al-Usul," and "Al-Musnad Al-Jami'."
