What is the ruling on supplicating with the words: "O Allah, grant me the things I do not know how to ask You for, for You know best what my soul desires"?

No discrepancy with Islamic law has been observed in the aforementioned supplication, so there is no objection to making it. However, it is advisable to use the well-known supplications that Allah Almighty has taught us, such as His saying: "Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire," and the supplication: "O Allah, we ask You for the best of what Your Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked You for, and we seek refuge in You from the worst of what Your Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sought refuge from," and also: "O Allah, we ask You for all good, sooner and later, what we know of it and what we do not know, and we seek refuge in You from all evil, sooner and later, what we know of it and what we do not know."
