Is it permissible to eat the meat of some reptiles, such as snakes, vipers, and dhub (mastigure lizard), for medicinal purposes?

The original ruling concerning snakes is prohibition according to the Hanbalis and Shafi'is due to their venom and the Prophet's command to kill them. The Malikis permitted eating them after ritual slaughter (tadhkiyah), provided their venom is neutralized. As for the dabb (mastigure/spiny-tailed lizard), the original ruling is permissibility according to the majority of scholars, and the proof for this is that the Prophet did not forbid it. Eating forbidden or impure things may be permissible in cases of necessity, such as eating carrion for one who is in dire straits.
