If the deceased leaves behind only his daughter, his paternal sister, and his paternal uncle, then the daughter receives half as a prescribed share (fard), according to the Almighty's saying: "And if there is only one, then she receives half." The remainder goes to the paternal sister by virtue of residuary inheritance ('asabah), based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) that he gave the sister what remained after the share of the daughter and the son's daughter. The paternal uncle receives nothing because he is completely excluded (mahjub hijāb hirmān) by the residuary sister. Thus, the inheritance is divided into two shares: one share for the daughter, and the remaining share for the paternal sister.
