Is it permissible to work as a translator for a Hajj group in exchange for exemption from the expenses of Hajj (the obligatory pilgrimage) for the translator and his wife, if the translator did not seek out this work?

Permissible work, such as renting out services or other activities, is allowed during Hajj, based on the Almighty's saying: "There is no blame upon you for seeking bounty from your Lord." However, it is better to abstain from such activities to free one's heart for worship. As for the conditions of renting out services, the wage must be known. If the wage is to cover the expenses of Hajj, then there is a scholarly disagreement regarding the validity of such a rental agreement. It is permissible according to the Maliki and Hanbali schools, but not permissible according to the Hanafi and Shafi'i schools.
