What is the ruling on the prayer of an Imam who leads people in prayer while they dislike him, and he knows of their dislike?

It is disliked for a man to lead a people in prayer when they genuinely dislike him, meaning due to a shortcoming in his religiosity such as ignorance, injustice, or innovation. This is based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Three whose prayers do not rise above their ears: ... and an Imam of a people who dislike him." However, if their dislike for him is due to his religiosity and uprightness, then his imamate is not disliked. Harmony must prevail between the Imam and the congregants; the Imam should consider the rights of the congregants and respect their feelings, and the congregants should respect the Imam.
