The answer

Whoever repents sincerely from any sin, Allah accepts their repentance, rejoices in it, and loves those who repent. Sincere repentance erases what came before it, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The one who repents from sin is like one who has no sin."

The penitent must be sincere in their repentance by abandoning the sin, regretting having committed it, and resolving not to return to it. They must also remove any attachment to the sin from their heart by seeking Allah's help, cutting off all causes that increase this attachment, not dwelling on thoughts and notions, occupying their time with beneficial deeds, remembering death and the hereafter, staying away from gatherings of heedlessness and disobedience, striving to accompany the righteous, attending gatherings of knowledge and remembrance, and persistently supplicating.
